Life Coaching Group had a first meeting on Thursday 7th May at 9:30 – 11 a.m. at St Andrews Church on Pack Horse Road in Gerrards Cross.
We had a lovely meeting with our U3A members. We are a small group and agreed to meet once a month for up to two hours at a time scheduling each and every meeting as we proceed. We learned that our members have quite impressive backgrounds, busy schedules, as well as very open inquisitive minds and enthusiasm to learn and practice new skills. One member for example was teaching communication skills to teens and adults before and is quite familiar with the whole idea but still finds it tricky sometimes to implement it in everyday life. Another member was always curious about life coaching as there is a great amount of news and reports in the media about celebrities going through personal coaching and other success stories due to life coaching. So we are set to experience it ourselves. We practiced mindfulness by Jose Silva method. We briefly discussed Body – Mind Connection the first topic from our program. We introduced the concept of emotions being physical reactions to the meaning we give to our thoughts, actions and events in our lives. These emotional reactions are signals about the state of our mind. Understanding this basic thing is at the core of our ability to influence our behaviour and life choices. We will continue to explore this topic at our next meeting and also will work on Life Satisfaction wheel. The next meeting is on Thursday 2nd of July at 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at St Andrews Church on Pack Horse Road in Gerrards Cross.
For our next meeting print out this picture of Life Satisfaction Wheel and answer two questions: 1. How much time do you spend in each segment of the wheel (sphere of life)? Take a week, a month or other length of time as a unit and consider on the scale of 0 (0%) in the center of the circle to 10 (100%) at the rim of it. Connect the points with a line. 2. Using a different colour pencil or highlighter evaluate on the scale of 0 (unhappy, unmotivated, depressed) to 10 (blissful joy, happiness, serenity) how satisfied you are in each area of your life, add as many areas as you need. We will discuss it together.
